Happy May Day!

This and a couple of other postcards were mixed in with family photos. I think my father brought them back from his one trip to Uzbekistan. Mementos from another time and place. Now I feel old.

Happy May Day! For you today I've planted thyme. Here's the myth:

During the Middle Ages it was believed that the scent of thyme inspired bravery. Knights wore scarves with thyme leaves sewn on them during tournaments; In English lore, if a person collected thyme flowers from hillsides where fairies lived, and rubbed the flowers on their eyelids, they would be able to see the fairies.

Thyme has a lovely scent. I'm pretty sure that it - or some version of it - grows wild in Europe.

I want to visit Uzbekistan. I want to visit all the Stans sans Pakistan and Afghanistan. They have the most interesting post soviet architecture. You get a sense of that socialist styled realism in your father's post card.
