Monday

I'm a sucker for red poppies. As a child I learned how to make poppy people: You fold the petals down and tie them around the stem for body. Stick a stick through crosswise for arms. Done.

I love poppies too. I bet your poppy dolls were adorable.

I'm going to try it. I heard that you keep cut poppies fresh by holding them upside down for a few hours so the sap doesn't run out. I'll try that too.

I kind of remember poppy people. Vague, vague childhood stuff. Some of that is so far away.

Fuschias look like ballerinas. Red poppies make me sleepy (wizard of oz)

You need to make a poppy person and show us the finished result!

Maybe next year. I'm afraid poppy season is over for now.

Hi there!

I came across your blog and really love your fabulous style of taking photos.
Poppies are one of my favourite blossoms / flowers, too. I don't know why I captured that little poppy images this year...
...perhaps it has to do with farming and corn fields in our part of the world. One year you find pretty lot of corn fields with plenty of poppy blossoms - another year you don't. 2009 is obviously a "don't-year"... ;-)

Regards from Germany,

Uwe.

You'd be surprised - as I was - that in the US poppies that grow wild tend to be short and orange. These red ones were actually decorative ones, but I remember them growing in the wheat fields when I was a kid.
