Flea Market Follies

Last Flea Market of the year. The weather was pretty decent for December.

Not quite warm enough to warrant this. Maybe she's hitchhiking.

And finally, lunch:

PCC? I think so. Always some good kitsch there.

So many must-have items! If we had a market like that around here I would be in deep trouble.
That unagi looks scrummy. Dang! There's not a sushi bar within ten miles of here.

Miss PCC.

I agree. I'm jealous of the unagi. Sadly, I'm not near a sushi bar at the moment.

My word verification? Reporns. I guess those are adult-rated re-runs?

PCC indeed. I went to the Rosebowl flea market once, but wasn't all that impressed. PCC is way better. Btw, next flea market is pushed up to the second Sunday, because of the Rose Parade.

I love unagi! Sadly, I learned that this restaurant (Konami) is closing at the end of the year. They plan to reopen at a different location, but don't have a place yet.

I should know this, but sadly do not. What is PCC? My old man is a huge antique/flea market-aholic. He's captain E-bay. You'd think that world would rub off, but sadly it did not. Oh the clocks and radios I could show you in his home.

He sold a vintage juke box to someone in Australia. Shipping on something that size was $600+

PCC is Pasadena City College. There's a flea market there on the first Sunday of every month. It takes up three floors of one of the parking buildings, and spills out to the outdoor parking lot. There's a $2 parking fee, but otherwise it's free. I generally go looking for old photos, but I pick up some other stuff too.

I don't think I agree that PCC is better than the Rose Bowl Flea market. It's just different. If you're looking for antique furniture, there's more at the Rose Bowl. PCC has a lot of stuff indoors, which is nice on a cold or rainy or very hot day. And they have lots of little things there. They're both fantastic markets, really. We're lucky to have the two of them in the San Gabriel Valley.

That's interesting. Stupid newbie antiquer question, Rose Bowl ... as in the Rose Bowl parade? Same folks/organization?

Also, what happened to dive's blog? I clicked on it, and says blog not found. Doink?

Vanda said...

Yeah, Rose Bowl as in the Rose Bowl stadium in Pasadena, home of the Tournament of Roses football game, starting point (I think) of the Rose parade. The one time I was there my impression was that there was too much new stuff, and big things. I like small things I can afford.

I don't know what's going on with Dive. I'm worried.

He said on Facebook that his blog disappeared and Blogger won't acknowledge its existence; he doesn't know why. Not to worry, he's still there.

Makes me think I'd better back up my blog. Gotta figure out how.

Unknown said...

I know you can save the template, but I'm not sure about the content. If you figure that out, would you share? While I don't have the material either you or dive possess, I would hate to lose it.

How do I reach dive on facebook, is that something shared? I'm on there as Todd Woodruff (feel welcome to look me up!).

Cheers (I'm also trying to do a better job this year to be less of a stranger... well, certainly not less weird, but more in contact!)

TR, I'll friend you and share his info in a private message. I don't know for sure, but he might not like his stuff being shared openly on the web (I'm probably being overly cautious but what the heck?)

Ooh, I have to come back because my wv is "schmata."

Vanda said...

Oh that's skeezy all right. I hope he gets the blog back. Soon.

dive said...

Aww gee shucks. You guys are too sweet.
Weirdly the blog came back all by itself (with no explanation) after two and a half days on the run.
I'm backing everything up now (really laborious) in case it does another runner.

I was worried that you pulled a teenage girl, and deleted your blog in a fit. (By "pull" I don't mean what you Brits mean, btw.)

dive said...

Yikes, Vanda! I'm way past any mid-life crisis and so don't feel the need to pull a teenage girl (in the Brit sense) and no longer have the energy to pull one in the sense that you mean (we call that "throwing a paddy" or "throwing a strop" and it takes more motivation than I have right now).
Hopefully, this fiasco will give me the kick up the backside necessary to start regularly blogging again.

Petrea Burchard said...

How do you do the back-up, Dive? Or can you point me to online instructions?

Vanda said...

We call it "throwing a hissy-fit," Dive. I just didn't want to be disrespectful ;)

Petrea: Laborious copying and pasting, I'm afraid.

Vanda: I throw a good hissy-fit when the mood takes me.
