Day of the Pig

It's almost time for the December flea market and I haven't even shared my goodies from the last one. Bad me. Bad.

The first Sunday of November was bright and sunny, with 90ºF. I sweated like a hog. You could say it was a porcine sort of day.

Strangely, I ran into a lot of pigs. The one above was my favorite. Who wouldn't want a piglet with blue eyeshadow for a serving dish? If not for the fact that I don't have a family of four to serve, or space to put the thing, I would've bought it.

I wonder what next Sunday will bring.

Flea Market

There were a lot of smiles at the flea market yesterday.

The weather has been absolutely perfect all summer so far--bright and sunny, but not too hot. I haven't yet turned on the AC once. Considering the spring-like winter we had and karma, we'll be paying for all this niceness at some point.

Up till then, I'll smirk at our poor loyalist cousins who I hear are having the wettest summer in history.

Flea Market

The first Sunday of December was a beautiful day: bright, sunny, with a seasonally appropriate nip in the air. Complete opposite of the one in November.

No surprise then that the Pasadena Flea Market was busier than a beehive on spring cleaning day.

I bagged yet another typewriter, but will post picture of that later. I have three now.

The flea market is also a great place of holiday shopping for the budget conscious. And honestly, who wouldn't want an eighties style red leather jacket for Christmas? Look how many zippers it has!

If you think twelve bucks is too much for this old toy, you can always haggle. Although, some take it to extreme. I came across a new vendor, a Chinese couple who wouldn't take no for an answer. I thought I might have to chew off a limb if I wanted to escape without purchasing something.

Ain't these great? Just think about filling them up with hot cocoa and then topping it off with giant marshmallows. It would be like drinking Santa's brain!

These should be sold by the pound.

Tired from all the walking? Put your feet up!

Well that's it for now, I'm packing it in.

Flea Market

It's cold, wet, and miserable today, and there's no way I'm going anywhere, even the flea market. However, I've never posted last month's pictures. So here they are!

Ferret circus. Why not? I bet Hamlet is much more fun with ferrets.

I kinda wish I bought this bunny-shaped tea pot. I don't know what I'd do with it, but it's fantastic.

Once a hustler, always a hustler.

Only you can prevent forest fires! Oh wait, wrong bear.

Dummies freak me out.

Summer Time

And the living is easy. Supposedly.

There's a heat wave here in L.A. The temperature hit 106º F yesterday here in the Valley. Meanwhile, Hurricane Irene is threatening to wipe New Jersey off the map. I jest.

My brain has turned to mush from the heat; no clue what to write.

So enjoy some more flea market photos.

Three

I've gotten inconveniently busy as of late. It shall pass. Till then I have random flea market weirdness.

I found these two singing trios at two different stalls, far apart from each other. They're completely different, yet similar.

Makes you think that there should have been a third somewhere, but there wasn't. Or maybe there was, I just didn't find it. Have I failed a mystical quest of utmost importance I didn't know I had?

I frequently have the feeling that reality is swooshing over my head, while I stand like a half-blind wretch in the grocery store, surrounded by blur.

I was listening to Spider Robinson's The Callahan Chronicles, and an expression jumped out at me: "flurry of triplets." I thought "What a great utterance!" and was jealous that I didn't come up with it, like Chanlder's "The streets were dark with something more than night." Then I Googled it, and apparently "flurry of triplets" is a musical term? And I was picturing three identical ankle biters turning a house upside-down.

Flea Market Fun

Flea market is like a treasure hunt: best undertook in comfortable shoes.

I struck gold again: this beautiful Underwood 4-band portable from circa the 1920's. She's a beaut, ain't she?

There was a whole lot of stuff I didn't buy, like a pile of mismatched cutlery.

Or this... teapot?

Fashionable hat.

I was tempted by the monkey, but held strong.

Yeah...

Okay, I have absolutely no idea what this is about, but I have the vague feeling that somehow it's racist.

Flea Market Follies

Last Flea Market of the year. The weather was pretty decent for December.

Not quite warm enough to warrant this. Maybe she's hitchhiking.

And finally, lunch:
