Square America: Winter - Part 1

Time for some goofy old pictures!

Most of the photos I find are of white people, so the group of ski trip photos of this Asian family was a uncommon discovery. I think it's the same family. It would be a strange coincidence if the pictures of two different Asian families were mixed together. Although the one above seems out of sync with the others. Oh well.

Judging from the dates on the photos, there were several trips.
I'm rubbish with races; I have no clue where this young gentleman would be tracing his ancestry. No matter, he is in California now. We are all transplants here. (Rumors of people born here have been unconfirmed.)

I'm shamed to admit, I'm not into skiing. Or winter sports. Or snow. Ok, a fresh blanket of snow has an aesthetic appeal - for about five minutes. Then it's all snow shovels, salt, slush, frozen slush, bulky clothing, the car doing a 360˚ at 25 mph on a thankfully deserted Indiana road. I've been traumatized by winter, can you tell?

Where are you in these pics?

Are they trekkies? That's a hoot.

If you are fed up with winter and snow, Vanda, switch over to my internet diary for a moment of time; I just posted some "summer memories" with photos of sandy beaches, blue sky, sunshine, ...

;-)

Regards from winterly Germany,

Uwe.

What cool photos, Vanda. I love the poses in the second one.

I'm definitely with you on the snow thing. You are so lucky to live in sunny California rather than up here in the frozen north where I had to chip my car out of the ice this morning.
Brr!

Loving these old snaps. Their dated anonymity makes them seem so vulnerable . . . have you thought of collecting them together as a book?

I find the pictures at paper shows mostly. I haven't been to one for months. It's time.

Petrea, what do you mean by trekkies? I'm lost.

Dive you got my sympathy.

Emma, that's a cool idea. There are books of "vernacular photography" out there.

You-wee, I really like your Christmas decorations.

In the photo labeled "1st Ski Trip" they all seem to be pointing to the young man's jacket and laughing. It looks like he's wearing a Star Trek pin.

Petrea, you are very perceptive. And nerdy.

Thank you on both counts.

If the first time they went skiing was 1962, then they got pretty good in five years. The guy in the second shot looks like he knows what he's doing.

That must be it.

I can confirm the rumor. I have the birth certificate with my wee inky foot prints. I can also tell you I haven't a clue about snow.

I love these photos, especially the first two. I keep wondering where you find all these old photos. It's a great hobby, and quite unique, I think. Not like collecting stamps you know? :)

Far more personal than stamps. ;)
